Help The Environment With These Energy Saving Ideas

As it gets greener and nicer outside, it's a great time to make much needed improvements in your house. These changes will not only save the environment but will save you money, too!

1. Switch to Fluorescent Light Bulbs

Switching your incandescent light bulbs for compact fluorescent bulbs (or CFLs) is the easiest and fastest way to make your house green and save money on energy. They use 75% less energy than incandescent and last 10 times longer. This is because, unlike incandescent bulbs, most of their energy is used to produce light instead of heat. They can save you $80 over the life of a single bulb - an extra bonus to saving the environment.

2. Energy Star Appliances

If your appliance is older than 12 years old, it might be time for a newer, more energy efficient system. It may seem costly, but in the long run, they are well worth it. Energy Star products use up to 50% less energy than old systems, which means more money you'll be saving every month!

Bonus tip - when you're not using your appliances, unplug them! This is because even if you're not using appliances or charges, they are still pulling energy when they are plugged in.

3. Properly Insulate your House

Why spend money running your HVAC if your cold air leak outs and your warm air won't stay in? You're spending more and not reaping any of the benefits! Double check around the fireplace, doors, and windows to see if there are any outlets and make sure you repair any leaks as soon as possible. This will cut down on energy consumption by reducing your heating and cooling demands.

4. Clean HVAC Filters

Another great HVAC saving tip is to check and replace your air filters on a regular basis. A sign you might need them checked is if you notice an unusually warm room or area in your home (that's not getting the air that the rest of the house is). If your vents are clogged, your system might be working harder to push out the air (and may be pushing out debris with it).

5. Fix Leaky Toilets, Sinks, and Showerheads

Did you know one leaky drip can waste up to 20 gallons of water a day! That's a lot of dollars adding up and a lot of water going to waste! If you need any help checking your plumbing, schedule a service with us! We can take a look and help you out right away.
