Does my Lawn need a Pre-emergent Herbicide?
If you have weeds in your yard, you probably need a pre-emergent. Why, because one of the most effective means of eliminating a weed problem is not having weeds come up in your lawn in the first place. That’s why Killingsworth uses pre-emergent herbicides. Pre-emergent applications are not bullet proof and not ALL weeds are controlled by them. Annual weeds like crabgrass are controlled very well by pre-emergent herbicides.
Depending on the type of weed being targeted, applications in the spring and fall are common. For example, crabgrass is targeted in the spring and poa annua is targeted in the fall.
Of course, you must get the timing of the pre-emergent right for it to be effective. As you can probably tell by the name, you must treat the lawn before the weed seedling emerges. Knowing the right timing and the right solution are why you need a lawn professional to handle your weed treatment.
